TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

Castlecoat Steelprime Epoxy Primer

DESCRIPTION AND USES

Castlecoat STPR is a two-pack water based anti-corrosive coating for protection of steel and concrete surfaces. It has fast touch dry time and rapid hardness development. It is used as a primer for Castlecoat SF. Castlecoat STPR can be applied by brush, roller or spray directly onto most clean, dry, non-porous substrates. Porous surfaces should be primed with Castleseal-2 before application of Castlecoat. Steel and ferrous surfaces should be grit blasted to SA2.5 standard.

ADVANTAGES: :

• NON TOXIC

• GOOD ADHESION

• LONG OVERCOATING TIME

• EASILY APPLIED

• FAST DRYING

• APPLY TO DAMP SURFACES

• EXCELLENT ANTI CORROSIVE

• MINIMAL PREPARATION NEEDED

 INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

All surfaces to which Castlecoat STPR is to be applied should ideally be clean, dry and free from dust and loose particles. Steel and other metal surfaces should ideally be grit-blasted.

Fresh galvanising will require pre-treatment with mordant solution or phosphoric acid etch primer. Hard, shiny surfaces such as vitreous enamel should be abraded. Mix Castlecoat STPR by adding all of the hardener to the Base and stir with a paddle mixer fitted to a slow speed drill until homogenous and free from streaks, (packs are pre-measured). Do not mix more than can be used in 60 minutes. Apply immediately by roller, brush or airless spray. Allow to cure for 24 hours before walking over.

Typical coating thicknesses of 250 microns (2 coats) are normally achieved with any of the above methods at 10 to 30°C. At lower or higher temperatures, greater or lesser film builds may result.

A minimum of two coats is required to give a continuous, pinhole-free surface. Multiple coats should be applied after 14 and within 18 hours of each other.

Unlike conventional paints, Castlecoat STPR is solvent free and may therefore be used safely in confined spaces without fire risk or undue operator hazard.

Clean equipment with acetone or M.E.K. before the material cures.
