TECHNICAL DATA SHEET
TUFFCOTE EPOXY RESIN COATING: FOR CHEMICALLY RESISTANT LININGS
DESCRIPTION AND USES
Tuffcote is a flexibilised, tough epoxy coating that can be applied to most common construction substrates. It has excellent resistance to weathering and chemical attack, making it suitable for wall coating and tank lining where a long-lasting, durable finish is required. Tuffcote can be applied by brush, roller or spray directly onto most clean, dry, non-porous substrates; but porous substrates will require to be primed with Pathseal Porous Surface Sealer to provide a good key. Tuffcote cures to a tack-free surface in 6 to 24 hours depending on temperature. Full cure is achieved in seven days.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
All surfaces to which Tuffcote is to be applied should ideally be clean, dry and free from dust and loose particles. Acceptable adhesion can be achieved on damp surfaces (remove all surface water first). Adhesion to porous surfaces will be enhanced by treating these with one coat of Pathseal Porous Surface Sealer. Steel and other metal surfaces should be abraded or grit-blasted. Steel surfaces that are subject to continuous immersion in aqueous solutions will benefit from a coat of anti-corrosive primer before being coated with Tuffcote. Fresh galvanising will require pre-treatment with mordant solution or phosphoric acid etch primer. Hard, shiny surfaces such as vitreous enamel should be abraded. Mix one part of Tuffcote Base with one part of Hardener (by volume) with a paddle mixer fitted to a slow speed drill until homogenous and free from streaks, (5 litre packs are pre-measured). Do not mix more than can be used in 30-40 minutes. Small quantities can be mixed by hand with a spatula. Apply immediately by roller, brush or airless spray. Allow to cure for 24 hours before walking on.
Typical coating thicknesses of 200-250 microns are normally achieved with any of the above methods at 10 to 30°C. At lower or higher temperatures, greater or lesser film builds may result.
A minimum of two coats is required to give a continuous, pinhole-free surface. Multiple coats should be applied within 48 hours of each other.
Vessels, which may be attacked by the stored medium, e.g. concrete or steel tanks holding acids, will require extra coats to ensure continuity of the film. Metal vessels can be effectively checked for film continuity by spark testing.
Tuffcote is not suitable for heavily trafficked surfaces.
Unlike conventional paints, Tuffcote is 100% solids and may therefore be used safely in confined spaces without fire risk or undue operator hazard.
QUANTITY ESTIMATION
